Our story

The Twisted Strings Music Festival was launched in 2017 after five, long years of planning and brainstorming. WGCU Public Media wanted to offer something new and vibrant to the southwest Florida region (and beyond) that would also serve as its annual, signature fundraising event. Friends and supporters regularly clamored for a community event that would welcome diversity (in race, region, socioeconomic status and music interests), that would introduce attendees to new and different music genres and that would honor the longstanding history and importance of classical music.

And Twisted Strings was born! The annual, outdoor festival brings together classically trained musicians who fuse their years of musical training on stringed (and other) instruments with the sounds of jazz, blues, soul, rock, hip hop and world music.

Twisted Strings is different than any other concert or festival offered in southwest Florida.

I loved the (2017) concert. Well put together and hardly any wait time between acts. Such diversity. All 4 acts were very good. The Moxie Strings and Black Violin were excellent. Looking forward to next year’s concert and any other concerts you plan during the year. We need more events like this and especially to raise funds for the wonderful PBS and WGCU!

The name “Twisted Strings” alone was enough to get me interested because it seemed like a perfect event for introducing my old friends and relatives to my new friends and celebrating my birthday. I have lived in Florida for many years, but only recently moved to Fort Myers. We’re already planning to come up with “twisted” ideas to help celebrate this truly wonderful event.
